Those results *should* look the same on just about any search engine worth it's salt. Taylor Swift.com and Taylor Swift's Wikipedia entry should be the number 1 and 2 spots in any search engine you try. It's impossible to compare the current Live to Kumo with one screenshot showing the two most popular sites for Taylor Swift. Google yields the SAME search results as Live/Kumo for Taylor Swift.

I would be concerned if Live or Kumo DIDN'T both show these two as the most popular sites and the images as well are all being pulled from extremely popular sources.

The real test here (and the reason why it's being tested internally) is how the new search algorithms of Kumo will stack up against the old ones of Windows Live. Are the top 10 results on any more relevant than they were with Live? How will they stack up against google?

One of the most noticeable differences you'll see with Kumo is the "Mark As Spam" feature. Search Result Spam is as big a problem sometimes as the spam you get within your inbox. User identified "spam" in search engine results may add a bit of a twist to the algorithms and results produced. This could result in a cleaner and more relevant set of search results across the top 10-20 results for any search term (something being watched closely in the beta).

Rebranding has many benefits, Kumo may be more well received than Windows Live and in many senses fits in line with the types of names you see with Web 2.0 sites (Flickr, Digg, Twitter, etc). It could play to the search engines benefit by creating a certain level of "buzz" that comes with a rebrand.

I can't decide if I think this will do them any good. I searched Taylor Swift at live.com and the results look the same to me as the screen shot above. How is this any different than trying to tell us if we call Vista Mojave people will like it better?
